Just a small collection of the robots I doodle when I’m not working
This was a job I did for the company Icemakes, on a redesign of their popular game “Age of Civilization” I include all of the process work- note: all of the names on the progress slides were working character titles.
These Concept Explorations informed the look of the lead Character for the game FarStar currently in development
Here’s a look at some of the process work that went into developing the final look of the box for the game Age of Galaxy
Photoshop’s symmetry tool is my guilty pleasure. Usually I’ll warm up by wipping out a few random face explorations. Its an awesome way to ideate quickly.
some super fast concept illustrations for our 72 hour jam film at Gobelins
A short story I came up with in my Preproduction class at RIT about a girl who befriends a tree.
Four key members of the vigilante faction known as The Retaliation.
My envisioning of a LAIKA studios production of The Tale of the Three Brothers, a short story by J.K. Rowling, featured in the book The Tales of the Beedle and the Bard. In the story, the three brothers unknowingly outsmart Death. But Death won't let them off that easy. I completed this project in Kevin Chen's Character Design class at CDA.
This was a poster I designed for the band I Set My Friends on Fire’s Summer ’16 tour entitled “Why Are You So Happy”. I Had a lot of fun working with these guys.
These two goons are out for a night of dream snatching! I really love these guys and definitely plan to design some images of them out on their adventures, battling vicious nightmares and what have ye.
This was my first real stylistic stab at the two main characters from my passion project, Wandernaut: Coy Straggler, and Lor Starley. Included at the bottom is some fun posing.
A keyframe poster idea for my story.
This was a fun project we had as our first assignment in Kevin Chen's Character Design class at Concept Design Academy. Mostly it was an exercise in unique shape exploration.
This scene depicts a small pod of Landsquids on their annual summer migration from the deserts to the cooler forested jungles of the south.
These are the most Elite warriors in my story, a truly terrifying force. They are operated by 200 year old men. They are rarely if ever deployed into battle, but when they are, they are hallowed as celebrities.
A place I'd like to visit someday.
This piece was finished using a technique taught to me by artist Alex Mandradjiev. The process involves implementing photos for their textures and emotional appeal. I've included all the photos used for this painting to help illustrate the method.
A very early "bluesky" delve into one of the key scenes from Wandernaut.
A stab at one of the chariots from my story.
A fun assignment from Joe Pitt's Character Design Class.
Making this piece was one of the highlights for me of my experiences at Art Center
Another assignment from Jerad Marantz's Costume and Creature Design class at Concept Design Academy. We were instructed to design an animal inspired fantasy warrior for a live action film or video game. I had a lot of fun looking at bugs and experimenting with interesting and logical ways to merge their anatomies with our's.
One of the first assignments from Jerad Marantz's Costume and Creature Design class at CDA: Design an animal inspired alien bounty hunter that could appear in a live action film. I played with a few animal-human hybrids before settling on the Giant Chinese Salamander, one of my favorite animals.
I thought I’d throw this in just for kicks. Making this portfolio was a lot of fun. Though not my proudest technical work, it still holds up nicely when it comes to explaining my basic process and preferences when it comes to storytelling.
This project provides a glimpse at some of the character explorations I'm working on for my story. Part of the fun of expanding the story is playing with the different possible stylistic executions. My coworkers were nice enough to pose for me which gave me a nice platform to jump off. I looked at a lot of world war 2 soldier portraits and 80s glamrock for inspiration.
This was just a fun poster idea I had and rolled with.
this was another exercise completed for my Environment Design class taught by Brian Yam at Concept Design Academy. The scene depicts the two main characters from my story in another quick excerpt of their travels.
self-portrait
This project was another stab at potentially styling the characters that inhabit the world of my story. This time I pulled a lot of inspiration from classic 1930s cartoons, with a coloring and pizazz reminiscent of 1960s fashion motifs.
A very early delve into potential designs of some prominent creatures featured in my story.
Another assignment completed during jerad Marantz’s Costume and Creature Design class. This week’s theme was horror. The subject depicted is a girl whose body has been consumed by an alien parasite, basically using her as a mouth to feed its growing arachnid body.
Another Environment study depicting a critical scene early on in my story. The main character’s father attempts to flee the Walled City. A few days into his journey, however and the flaming statues marking the city’s controlled territory are still visible in every direction.
Making this piece was one of the highlights for me of my experiences at Art Center
I have been studying figure drawing for about 8 years now, most recently under artists and instructors Carol Douglas, Kevin Chen, and Mark Westermoe. For the past two years, I have tried to go to at least one figure workshop a week, during which, in the words of Mark Westermoe, I practice "drawing what I see based on what I know". This has been hugely helpful with my design work.
These are collected from the past term at CDA. All the images here are drawn from life on newsprint with poses ranging from 3 minutes to up to 25 minutes. Models are grouped to their own respective pages
Just a couple of goons to occupy the world of my personal project.
